Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead will oversee the maintenance and repair of heavy wheeled equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage a team of mechanics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 12-20 mechanics in the maintenance and repair of heavy wheeled equipment
  • Perform annual service on equipment fleet and conduct thorough inspections to identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee the repair and replacement of components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies
  • Identify and order necessary parts, ensuring timely delivery and minimizing downtime
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Mentor and train subordinate mechanics to improve technical skills and knowledge
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including daily timesheets and manning reports
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • 5+ years' experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
  • 1-3 years' leadership experience
  • Military experience preferred
  • ASE certification or other civilian training/certificates
  • Ability to meet and maintain base access security requirements
  • US Citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization
Working Conditions

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead will work in a fast-paced environment, frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
