About the Role
In the capacity of the Space 5 Business Lead, you will be integrated into the Car Audio Business Unit within HARMAN International's Automotive Division. You will collaborate with a team focused on defining, designing, and developing next-generation sound experiences.
As vehicle sound systems increasingly serve functions such as communication, alerts, and immersive audio from various consumer devices, the automotive sector must prioritize comprehensive sound-based experiences that enhance traditional audio reproduction. You will thrive in a dynamic environment, working alongside HARMAN's EPIC innovation & technology team, HUEMEN research & UX design team, and our exceptional Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and Marketing teams. Your responsibilities will include defining the brand promise, strategy, and product families for future iterations of HARMAN-branded sound systems across our automotive brand portfolio, aligned with our OEM partners and future initiatives. You will leverage these outcomes to assist component-level product managers in shaping and executing product strategies and roadmaps for global markets.
In this position, you will oversee consumer-centric, OEM partner-focused, branded sound system definitions and roadmaps across our global audio brand portfolio. Your role will involve crafting compelling and distinct system propositions based on market demands, consumer segments, customer alignment, and technical viability; all while ensuring the delivery of system performance targets through product roadmaps from conception to retirement. You will foster and enhance ongoing brand promise evolution, integrating new technologies, architectures, consumer expectations, and customer requirements to maintain the relevance, desirability, and profitability of our brands and systems both now and in the future.
This role necessitates close collaboration with HARMAN's customer groups. With a strong emphasis on being the voice of the customer, you will anticipate market demands and ensure that requirements are incorporated into the global management framework. You will play a pivotal role in developing and supporting customer presentations and managing partner relationships. Insights from both Global and Regional perspectives will be crucial for driving success.
Your Team
You will expand and directly manage a Product Management Scope Team of approximately 50+ members, alongside a New Product/Platform Engineering Delivery team over the next 18 months, tasked with bringing this innovative product to market. You and your team will also be expected to lead through influence and collaborate with additional cross-functional team members from all relevant functions within a matrix organization. This team will be empowered and aligned with company objectives. Exceptional communication and leadership abilities will be essential for success.
What You Will Do
Identify gaps and generate innovative ideas that enhance consumer experiences while addressing OEM partner challenges and aligning with HARMAN's business objectives. Discover and define opportunities for OEM-winning system, product, and brand value propositions that set HARMAN apart from competitors and boost revenue and margins. Translate Proofs of Concept, consumer insights, customer feedback, and technology roadmaps into cohesive branded system definitions, supporting component productization, marketing, and partnership initiatives, with a rolling 2-3-year iterative product roadmap and release schedule. Manage structured reviews of branded system concepts according to the objectives outlined in the 2-3-year plan. Adapt to and manage change as a key strategic direction of the company, responding swiftly to emerging market opportunities. Deliver comprehensive system and branded system-level Market Requirements Documents (MRD) and Product Requirements Documents (PRD) with prioritized features and justifications. Convert product strategy into detailed requirements and prototypes. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure rapid time-to-market and optimal resource utilization. Analyze relevant market data to extract technology, system architecture, and product trends for HARMAN, defining necessary system requirements including performance, content, features/products, pricing, and timing. Leverage technologies both within and outside of HARMAN to cultivate enduring and successful relationships that benefit the unique nature of HARMAN's diverse business. Develop the core value proposition, brand and system positioning, and messaging for HARMAN's portfolio of branded systems, as well as individual branded systems utilized by our OEM partners and those targeted for new initiatives. Identify Go-To-Market strategies for all branded audio systems (10-15 individual brand activations at major OEMs). Create alignment for the branded system vision, both internally and with key external partners. Drive the early development of branded systems (ideation, MRD/PRD, Proof of Concept, pre-RFQ, pre-development). Support pursuits and RFQs, product development, and launches, collaborating with engineering, marketing, public relations teams, executives, and other product management members. Develop sales tools and collateral in partnership with our marketing teams. Brief and train the sales force during quarterly sales meetings and dedicated training sessions. Define branded system cost targets in collaboration with customer groups and component product management colleagues. Recommend list pricing, supported by competitive and margin analysis (high-level business case generation in collaboration with our finance teams).What You Need
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business with practical experience in sound domains. 10+ years of experience in sound system hardware and software architecture, design, and development. 10+ years of product management experience, demonstrating success with B2B or B2B2C products. 3+ years of experience in the automotive sector and agile-based technology development/delivery. Proven success or strong aptitude for integrating multiple information streams (B2B customer voice, consumer insights, internal business targets, and new technologies into distinct brand promises) into system-level strategies and proposals, while leveraging underlying platform or business efficiencies. A keen interest in staying informed about market trends across various industries. Strong customer orientation, establishing credibility as a trusted, collaborative, and productive partner. Experience in a matrix, global, cross-functional organization, collaborating with key stakeholders in sales, product operations, marketing, and engineering. A proven track record of developing product and marketing strategies and effectively communicating recommendations to senior leadership. A solid technical background with hands-on experience in software development; automotive experience is advantageous. An appreciation for user experience and design.What is Nice to Have
