Inventory Management Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Retail Sales Associate to join our team at the U.S. Army Europe and Africa. As a Retail Sales Associate, you will be responsible for maintaining adequate stock levels, replenishing depleted stock, and ensuring accurate pricing and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of perishable and non-perishable subsistence items
  • Replenish depleted stock with incoming items or by obtaining stock from storage areas and transporting to shelving or display areas
  • Use cart and manual or electric pallet jacks to move items
  • Place computer-generated selling price labels on shelves for patrons to see and perform price verification
  • Scan product code and compare price with label price, bringing any discrepancies to the attention of management
  • Arrange stock on shelves or in displays in a neat and orderly manner, rotating stock based on age and freshness
  • Constantly check for damaged, spoiled, or out-of-date merchandise and refer items to supervisor and/or food inspector
  • May assist in unloading incoming shipments and in checking stock
  • Use handheld terminals to scan UPC codes, verifying items are authorized and entering quantities received into the handheld terminal
  • Print reports and verify totals with delivery tickets, informing management of discrepancies
  • Move stock into temporary or permanent storage locations, using proper stock rotation to stack containers in groups by commodity, brand, and size
  • Participate in inventories and respond courteously and professionally to routine patron questions, providing proper location and prices of specific items and determining availability of requested items
  • Consult supervisor or other management official when patron issues cannot be resolved
  • Ensure produce and/or meat cases are adequately stocked and maintained, visually inspecting meat and/or produce for signs of deterioration, discolorment, damage, and/or leakage
  • Report any findings to a higher graded department employee or to a management official
  • May review temperature control devices and record temperatures on meat cases, dairy cases, freezers, display cases, cooling bins, chill cases, and any other temperature-controlled areas
  • Report discrepancies to the supervisor or to another management official
  • Break down cases as they are emptied and remove cardboard and garbage from the store
  • Load cardboard into a baler and activate the machine
  • Assist in tying off completed bales of cardboard and remove from the baler
  • Separate recyclable plastic and collect in semi-transparent plastic bags or place in a holding device such as a baler
  • Clean up broken and/or spilled items
  • Clean any items in display cases that require cleaning prior to stocking
  • Clean shelves and display areas on a regular basis
  • Perform all sanitation tasks in accordance with applicable directives
  • Ensure all merchandise, supplies, and equipment are properly accounted for and secured from spoilage, damage, and possible theft
  • Follow proper safety procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing in the performance of duties
  • Pick curbside orders, retrieve electronic orders from a desktop computer using designated software, and use a handheld scanner and scanning software to upload orders and pick orders for the customer within established time constraints
  • Bag items, making changes to weight and number of items as required
  • Contact the customer as needed regarding substitutions or item availability
  • Work involves picking multiple orders simultaneously submitted by multiple customers, integrated inventory and point-of-sales processing
  • Properly identify orders with patrons' names and place in the staging area
  • Upon arrival of the customer, retrieve the order from the staging area, transport to the customer's vehicle, check and scan the customer's ID card, complete the checkout process, and load the order into the customer's vehicle
  • May operate a cash register scanning system, which records unit prices in proper amounts and accounts
  • Total purchases and collect, validate, and process payment, including cash, checks, debit and credit card transactions, electronic benefits transfer transactions, and coupons
  • Make correct change and/or provide cash back to the customer depending on the nature of the payment transaction
  • Bag items, hand out flyers and/or coupons, and assist patrons in the correct processing of their orders
  • Retrieve carts from the parking lot
  • Anticipate and meet the needs of both internal and external customers
  • Deliver high-quality products and services and be committed to continuous improvement
Requirements
  • English Language Proficiency level A2 required
  • 6 months of General Experience required, which includes simple work in an office or store that does not require knowledge in a specific field of work
  • Current employees in the same or similar positions who do not meet E&T Level I must have additional 2 years of general experience to qualify
  • No additional experience required for E&T Level II and above
Working Conditions
  • This is a permanent part-time position (20 hours/week)
  • Working on weekends and holidays as well as rotating shift work (3 shifts, one must be at night) required
  • Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
