In the realm of online travel services, managing a vast number of bookings and flights presents unique challenges. Core Software Engineering Challenges in a Cloud-Driven Network

At Amadeus, we have transformed our network architecture by migrating to the cloud, which has facilitated a decentralized and more efficient operational model, enhancing security and segmentation. Currently, we manage hundreds of network devices globally, utilizing a robust abstraction layer that interprets user intent defined as code, converting it into optimized rules and configurations specific to each device.

With approximately 3 million links deployed in the cloud and nearly a hundred user-defined connectivity adjustments daily, our system demands exceptional reliability and performance, alongside a focus on user and developer experience. The evolution of our product aligns closely with changes in Network, Infrastructure, and Platform High-Level Design (HLD), necessitating collaboration with various business units across Amadeus.

The AUD is built on a distributed, cloud-native architecture, designed to meet Amadeus's current needs while aspiring to establish an open standard for cloud connectivity management, promoting a modular and extensible approach beneficial to both Amadeus and the broader community.

The AUD Core team operates as an agile unit within the Infrastructure Train (SAFe ART), empowered to make autonomous decisions with support from Train Leads, Line Organization, and Sponsors. As the leader of the AUD Core team, you will collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cross-functional expertise, including software development, network engineering, quality assurance, and product management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the performance and development of a medium-sized, cross-functional team.
  • Influence resource allocation, budget planning, and policy development while establishing clear growth plans for team members.
  • Maintain a mid to long-term vision for the business, impacting departmental strategy through a comprehensive understanding of the industry landscape.
  • Facilitate complex decision-making and innovation processes.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, escalating issues only when necessary.
  • Coordinate efforts to diagnose and resolve major incidents or escalations.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to uphold high technical standards in solution design, implementation, and operation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's degree, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience and Skills:

As the leader of the AUD Core team, the Software Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cloud connectivity management, both for Amadeus and the industry. The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Strong people management and influential skills, embodying a servant leadership style that empowers individual contributors and supports agile methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication abilities.
  • Experience in designing and constructing distributed systems, preferably with cloud-native architecture.
  • Familiarity with lean methodologies and practices in software development, including building and maintaining delivery pipelines.
  • Experience in managing critical services.
  • A minimum of 3 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (C++, Java, Python, Go, Rust).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience leading technical projects or cross-functional teams, responsible for planning, execution, and supervision, including performance discussions and management in a large international context.
  • In-depth knowledge of lean principles applied to software engineering.
  • Solid experience in a similar role or relevant long-term project management experience.
  • Knowledge of network engineering in cloud and/or hybrid environments is a plus.
  • Proficient English language skills.
