Core Software Engineering Challenges
At AMADEUS, we have transformed our network architecture through cloud migration, facilitating a decentralized and efficient operational model with improved segmentation and security. Currently, we manage hundreds of network devices globally, utilizing a robust abstraction layer known as the AUD, which interprets user intent defined as code and translates it into optimized configurations for various devices.
With approximately 3 million links deployed in the cloud and nearly a hundred user-defined connectivity changes daily, the AUD is a production system that demands exceptional reliability and performance, as well as a superior user and developer experience. The evolution of this product is closely aligned with changes in Network, Infrastructure, and Platform High-Level Design (HLD), necessitating collaboration with nearly every business unit within Amadeus.
The AUD operates on a distributed, cloud-native architecture, designed to meet Amadeus's current needs while aspiring to establish an open standard for cloud connectivity management, with a modular and extensible approach that benefits both Amadeus and the broader community.
The AUD Core team functions as an agile unit within the Infrastructure Train (SAFe ART), empowered to make autonomous decisions with the support of Train Leads, Line Organization, and Sponsors. At Amadeus, we prioritize diversity, collaboration, and innovation. As the leader of the AUD Core team, you will collaborate with team members from various backgrounds and expertise, including software development, network engineering, quality assurance, and product management, all working from different locations.
Main Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the performance and development of a medium-sized, cross-functional team.
- Influences resource allocation, budget planning, and policy development while establishing concrete development plans for team members.
- Possesses a mid- to long-term vision for activities and business, influencing departmental strategy based on a comprehensive understanding of the environment.
- Facilitates complex decision-making and innovation processes.
- Operates with a high degree of autonomy, escalating issues only when necessary.
- Coordinates efforts to diagnose and resolve major incidents or escalations.
- Collaborates closely with the team to uphold high technical standards in the design, implementation, and operation of solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's, Master's degree, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience and Skills:
As the leader of the AUD Core team, the Software Engineering Manager will be pivotal in shaping the future of cloud connectivity management, both for Amadeus and the industry. The ideal candidate should possess:
- Strong influential and people management skills, embodying a servant leadership style that empowers individual contributors and supports agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Experience in designing and constructing distributed systems, preferably with cloud-native architecture.
- Familiarity with lean methodologies and practices in software development, including building and maintaining delivery pipelines.
- Experience in managing critical services.
- A minimum of 3 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (C++, Java, Python, Go, Rust).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience leading technical projects or cross-functional teams, with accountability for planning, execution, and oversight, including performance discussions and management in a large international context.
- Deep understanding of lean principles and practices in software engineering.
- Significant experience in a similar role or relevant long-term project management experience.
- Knowledge of network engineering in cloud and/or hybrid environments is advantageous.
- Proficient English language skills.
