The Institute for Behavioral Neurobiology is a research facility situated in Bonn, dedicated to exploring how the intricate interactions of numerous interconnected neurons in the brain lead to a wide array of animal behaviors. Our investigations cover a broad spectrum, from nano-scale imaging of neural networks to extensive functional imaging of brain activity during various behaviors, as well as the quantification of natural animal actions.

The Research Team focusing on "Neural Communication Dynamics" is engaged in studying the fundamental principles of signal processing, attentional mechanisms, and context sensitivity within neural frameworks. Our primary focus is on the foraging behaviors exhibited by the roundworm C. elegans.

The Research Initiative

Our laboratory is keenly interested in deciphering how two fundamental behaviors (feeding and movement) are interconnected and the neural pathways that facilitate this relationship. For a newly funded initiative, we are in search of a researcher eager to develop a 'virtual environment' for worms to study collective foraging behaviors. This initiative encompasses a blend of setup engineering, programming, behavioral assessments, and image processing.

Your Credentials

A master's degree in neuroscience, biophysics, physics, physical chemistry, engineering, computer science, or related disciplines
Proficient in at least one programming language for data analysis (Python preferred) and a strong enthusiasm for quantitative methodologies in behavior and neural circuit analysis
A keen interest in analyzing extensive data sets and employing contemporary data analysis techniques, including machine learning
A passion for designing and developing tailored scientific instruments
