Doctoral Researcher in Neuroimmunology

vor 3 Monaten

Bonn, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland Dzne Vollzeit

Position Overview

We are in search of a dedicated and passionate Doctoral Researcher to engage in pioneering studies at the intersection of neuroscience and immunology.

The successful candidate will join the 'Translational Neuroimmunology' research team, directed by Dr. Róisín McManus, affiliated with a prominent research institution.

Our investigations aim to elucidate the role of microglia-driven neuroinflammation in the advancement of Alzheimer's disease. We specifically focus on how immune signaling and metabolic alterations interplay to influence microglial functionality, thereby impacting disease progression.

Recent findings indicate that a western diet can induce lipid alterations that activate microglia, leading to neuroinflammatory responses. Through various animal models of dementia, murine cell culture experiments, and patient-derived samples, your doctoral research will aim to decode the innate immune mechanisms that drive these neuroinflammatory processes, contributing to our understanding of Alzheimer's disease.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct cell culture experiments utilizing murine and human cells.
  • Perform immune activation assays and employ advanced laboratory techniques including metabolic assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, RNA sequencing, and biochemical methods such as western blotting and quantification assays.
  • Investigate the effects of dietary interventions, pharmacological inhibition, and genetic depletion strategies on microglial activity in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in experimental animal research and in the fields of immunology, neuroscience, or cellular metabolism is highly advantageous.
  • FELASA accreditation is considered a significant asset.
  • Hands-on experience in cell culture (e.g., murine microglia or microglia derived from human iPSCs) and biochemical techniques (protein assays, western blotting, PCR) is preferred. Familiarity with immunohistochemistry or flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in English for effective communication, writing, and presentation of scientific findings.
  • A strong enthusiasm for exploring and innovating with novel techniques.
  • A willingness to collaborate within a diverse and interdisciplinary team of international researchers.

What We Offer

  • Innovation and International Collaboration - Access to modern laboratory facilities, cutting-edge equipment, and opportunities for international exchanges with colleagues from various countries.
  • Work-Life Balance - Flexible working hours, mobile working options, and generous vacation policies.
  • Family-Friendly Environment - Supportive measures for employees with families, including parent-child offices and daycare partnerships.
  • Health and Wellbeing - Comprehensive health programs to promote employee wellness.
  • Professional Development - Tailored training programs and annual development meetings to foster career growth.
  • Competitive Compensation - Salary and benefits in accordance with established public service regulations.
  • Welcoming Onboarding - A structured onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition into your new role.
  • Positive Work Environment - A pleasant campus setting with access to amenities and public transport.
  • Opportunities for Knowledge Sharing - Regular seminars on immunology, neuroscience, and related biomedical topics.
  • Possibility to present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • This position is initially limited to a duration of two years.

We look forward to your application.
