The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, in cooperation with the German Centre for Integrative

Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig, offers the following position, starting as soon as possible and

limited until 7 August 2026:
Scientific Employee for the European Topic Center on Biodiversity and

Ecosystems (ETC-BE) (M/F/d)

as part-time employment (80%)

The salary will be up to Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L if the personal requirements and tasks are fulfilled. This position

will be based at iDiv in Leipzig within the Biodiversity Conservation research group.

The project and research group:
The **German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig** is a world-leading centre

for biodiversity science and focuses on understanding biodiversity on our planet. Founded in 2012 with funding

from the German Research Foundation (DFG), iDiv has since grown to over 300 employees and 170 members. iDiv

is largely funded by the three central German states of Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Saxony. Their three

universities in Halle, Jena and Leipzig operate the research centre in cooperation with the Helmholtz Centre for

The position is affiliated with the **Biodiversity Conservation** professorship of Prof. Henrique Pereira. The

Biodiversity Conservation group investigates patterns and processes of global biodiversity change, with the goal

of informing environmental policy and management of ecosystems. For more information, please visit our lab

The position is funded by the **European Environment Agency’s (EEA) European Topic Centre on Biodiversity**

**and Ecosystems 2023-2026 Program (ETC-BE)**.**ETC-BE aims to support the EEA with updated information on

biodiversity and ecosystems, mostly through co-creation, and thus supports the EEA with the next generation of

thematic and integrated biodiversity and ecosystem assessments as well as identification of actionable nature
- based solutions. Thereby, the joint work of the EEA and ETC-BE will support the implementation of the Green Deal.

The job will be performed in collaboration with a large consortium of partner institutions and organizations across

Europe.

The position aims to support the EEA by coordinating activities related to biodiversity reporting, particularly under

the Nature Directives. This includes leading the task on Status and trends of species and habitats, ensuring high
- quality outputs that align with scientific and policy requirements. Additionally, it involves contributing to broader

biodiversity and nature-related themes (e.g. Nature Restoration Regulation and Natura 2000) as needed. This role

will be integrated into and complement the wider ETC-BE-iDiv technical and scientific team. It requires maintaining

a holistic and transversal perspective on related tasks to ensure continuity and coherence between previous and

ongoing work in biodiversity reporting. This will ensure a smooth transition between previous and new work in

biodiversity reporting while ensuring the scientific soundness of the ETC-BE reporting process.

Tasks
- Leading the coordination of the” Status and trends of species and habitats” task under the Nature Directives,

organizing meetings with the EEA managers and partners from the ETC BE Consortium, ensuring alignment

and proficient work
- Coordination of the preparation of the Annual Task Plan for Nature Reporting, ensuring the timely delivery of

milestones and outputs outlined in the Task Plan and maintaining effective and transparent communication

with the EEA project managers and the ETC BE coordination
- Development and preparation of documentation and mechanisms to facilitate the reporting by Member

States under Articles 12 and 17 of the Nature Directives, including finalizing the reporting structure in

Reportnet 3.0, providing desk help to Member States, and updating the reporting manual
- Supporting the development of the EU assessments, and preparing for the analyses of the State of Nature

report
- Supervision and coordination of the ETC-BE-iDiv technical and scientific team and relevant consortium

partners to ensure that tasks undertaken in the Task Plan are based on the best availab
