Modern, interconnected, conscious of tradition: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is the old

Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), Faculty of Law and Economics, School of Law, Chair of

German, European and International Public Law, offers a temporary position (up to 36 months) starting on

1 December 2024:
As part-time employment (65%).

The salary will be up to pay group 13 TV-L (according to the collective wage agreement of the German fed
- eral states), if the personal requirements and tasks are fulfilled.

The position is part of the International Max Planck Research School “Global Multiplicity: A Social Anthropol

for Social Anthropology, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Leipzig University and FAU Erlangen-Nürn
- berg.

The position is integrated within the research at the Chair of Prof. Dr. Dirk Hanschel at MLU on the topic of en
- vironmental justice and within the IMPRS-GM thematic group “Legal Complexity and Justice” which tackles

complex global challenges such as environmental destruction, trans-border migration or digitalisation of legal

thinking from the perspective of law and anthropology. These challenges can only be addressed through a

Within this framework the PhD project in the field of law shall take recourse to ethnographic methods and be

expressly designed in an interdisciplinary fashion. A thematic focus on questions of environmental justice, as

they are currently examined at the Chair as well as the Max Planck Fellowship on „Environmental Rights in Cul
- ness for collaborative formats are required.

Work Tasks:

- Participation in an intense, structured teaching and work programme of the IMPRS-GM as well as in re
- search at the Chair as part of the PhD project
- Carrying out PhD research, including potential fieldwork, supported by the IMPRS-GM
- Administrative work for the Chair
- Teaching duties as based on MLU regulations (average: 2,6 SWS/hours per week per semester)
- Chances for own academic qualification will be provided (PhD)

Prerequisites:

- Degree in Law qualifying for PhD study, preferably with an emphasis in the field of public law, in particular
- public international and European law
- Ability/interest to work in a research team and interest in the topic of environmental justice
- Preparedness for a deep immersion into anthropology and the use of ethnographic methods
- in legal resarch
- Excellent proficiency in academic English; for the fulfilment of the teaching requirement knowledge of Ger
- man language is beneficial, but not required.
