We are looking for a passionate student willing to support our quantum device development activities by conducting his master/diploma thesis with us. You will be a member of the high-performance technology group, working on the realization of 300mm CMOS compatible quantum devices. The experimental work will mainly take place within IPMS´ 300mm state-of-the-art cleanroom and laboratories at the "Center Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT)". **What you will do** - Development and investigation of processes for the fabrication of novel superconducting materials - Analysis of thin films prepared by magnetron sputtering (PVD), e.g. by AFM, SEM, XRD or XPS - Electromagnetic examination of samples down to 1.6 K **What you bring to the table** - Knowledge in solid state physics and semiconductor technology (e.g. thin film deposition, circuit design, lithography, etching processes) as well as first experience with working in a clean room environment - Initial contact to analytics and programming languages (Python, Labview) - Hands on mindset with the attitude of finding creative solutions to problems - Good written and spoken English required, German recommended - Dream add-on: Technical understanding in superconductivity, cryogenic characterization or quantum computing **What you can expect** We offer you an exciting topic and individual support in the preparation of your thesis by experienced employees. We support you in this process The scientific work will be carried out in the business unit **Next Generation Computing** at Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden. The examination takes place via affiliation with a German university of applied sciences and is governed by the respective state university law. The weekly working time is 15 hours. The position is temporary for the duration of the academic work. The duration is flexible depending on the agreement and possible study guidelines, but is a maximum of 6 months.
