Job Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking dedicated adjunct faculty to join our innovative educational initiative aimed at providing higher education opportunities to incarcerated individuals. Teaching responsibilities may include day, evening, or weekend classes, which may be delivered in traditional or hybrid formats. Classes will be conducted in various correctional facilities, providing a unique opportunity to impact the lives of students in a meaningful way.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in English to incarcerated students.
  • Develop and implement course materials that align with educational standards.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with correctional facility staff to ensure a supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and adhere to reporting deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in English or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of instructional technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to engage professionally with diverse student populations.
  • Must pass a background screening as required by the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching in a community college or higher education setting.
  • Prior experience working in correctional education.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems and student registration software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
