Job Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking dedicated adjunct faculty members to join our innovative educational initiative aimed at providing higher education opportunities to incarcerated individuals. This program is designed to empower students through education, facilitating their successful reintegration into society.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging and effective English instruction to incarcerated students.
  • Utilize innovative teaching strategies to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with students and correctional staff.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators to ensure curriculum alignment with educational standards.
  • Travel to different correctional facilities as required for course delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in English or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in English.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficient in instructional technologies and teaching methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to engage professionally with diverse groups.
  • Successful completion of a background screening as mandated by the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching in a community college or higher education environment.
  • Prior experience working within correctional facilities.
  • Familiarity with student registration software and Learning Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
