Researcher Position: Head of Center of Expertise on Africa

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to lead our Centre of Expertise on Africa. As the head of this centre, you will be responsible for researching legal developments in selected African jurisdictions from a comparative perspective.
Your key tasks will include initiating and organizing conferences, cooperative projects, and exchange programs for early-career researchers. You will also be responsible for formulating legal approaches meeting the needs of tomorrow and supporting the library in the acquisition of relevant literature.
Moreover, you will supervise researchers coming from individual African countries, maintain a familiarity with country-specific journals, and regularly publish on current developments in the African countries on which you focus.
In addition, you will support German courts in the determination and application of foreign law through the preparation of expert opinions. Your expertise will be brought to bear in the Institute's comparative projects, and you will be given the opportunity to carry out independent research in the fields addressed by the Centre of Expertise.
RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong academic background in private international law, foreign legal systems, and comparative inquiry. You should have special legal and language skills in relation to certain African countries and be fluent in German and English.
You should also have a doctoral degree with distinction and a strong interest in furthering your qualifications or authoring a post-doctoral dissertation or Habilitation thesis.
