Job Title: Research Associate for Advanced Imaging of Matter

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the Cluster of Excellence "Advanced Imaging of Matter" at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment, working on cutting-edge projects in time-resolved spectroscopy and crystallography of flavoenzymes.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and express flavoenzyme constructs, and purify proteins
  • Conduct serial femtosecond crystallography experiments, including at XFELs
  • Perform ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, including data analysis
  • Manage projects, including complex XFEL-based teamwork
  • Communicate scientific results through publications and presentations
  • Prepare grant applications to secure third-party funding
Requirements:
  • PhD in physics, biophysics, structural biology, or a related field
  • Expertise in expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant flavoproteins
  • Experience with ultrafast laser apparatuses and transient absorption measurements
  • Basic programming skills in a high-level language such as Python
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a shared laboratory and present scientific work at international meetings
