At the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), we are committed to understanding the mechanisms of cancer development and identifying new strategies for cancer prevention and treatment. Our research group, led by Prof. Dr. Henri-Jacques Delecluse, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD student to investigate the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in the development of multiple sclerosis (MS).

MS is a chronic and debilitating disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Recent studies have shown that EBV infection is a strong risk factor for MS, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. As a PhD student in our group, you will have the opportunity to work on this exciting project, which involves characterizing the interactions between EBV, the immune system, and the central nervous system.

Your Tasks

As a PhD student, you will be responsible for:

  • Characterizing the interactions between EBV and the immune system
  • Developing and implementing novel methods for studying EBV infection in the context of MS
  • Collaborating with our research group and international partners to advance our understanding of EBV's role in MS
Your Profile
  • Master's degree in biology, medicine, biochemistry, or related disciplines
  • Previous experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques, with a strong background in bioinformatics
  • Excellent command of written and oral English, with a proof of language proficiency (IELTS >6.5 or TOEFL>90)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

We offer a competitive doctoral salary, access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and opportunities for international networking and collaboration. If you are a motivated and talented individual with a passion for biomedical research, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
