The University of Bremen is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as a Rococo Art Analysis Specialist. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage in collaborative research within a vibrant environment focused on visual computing and virtual reality.

Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of this interdisciplinary initiative is to innovate methods for extracting valuable insights from scanned artworks, specifically focusing on ornamental pieces from the 18th century, known as rocaille. The project aims to facilitate art historians in their exploration of these intricate art forms.

In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate closely with art historians to establish effective representations and similarity measures from scanned artworks.
  • Develop software tools that will assist art historians in classifying rocaille ornaments and tracing design evolutions.
  • Utilize advanced techniques in machine learning, computer vision, and geometric computing to address complex challenges in the analysis of ornamental art.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess a strong Master's degree or equivalent in fields such as computer science, physics, mathematics, or computational engineering. Essential qualifications include:

  • Proficient programming and software development skills.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and computer vision techniques.
  • Understanding of mathematical concepts related to curves, graphs, and textures.
