We are seeking a highly motivated Master Student Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or similar to contribute to our research team at the Institute of Future Fuels in Köln. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that aim to develop sustainable technologies for the production of fuels, hydrogen, and commodities.
About the ProjectThe Institute of Future Fuels is focused on developing technological solutions that enable the cost-effective production of fuels, hydrogen, or even commodities in the sunbelt of the earth on an industrial scale. Our unique infrastructure allows us to use concentrated solar energy to cover the heat demand of high-temperature processes. One of the key challenges we are addressing is the development of sustainable CO2 capture technologies to minimize the environmental impacts caused by climate change.
Your RoleWe are looking for a Master Student Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or similar to assess novel materials for CO2 capture at high-temperatures (i.e. above 600 °C). Your main focus will be on the evaluation of the cyclability and carbonation rates using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). You will also be responsible for the synthesis of promising materials on a lab scale and their characterization with different techniques, e.g., XRD, SEM, BET.
Requirements- University bachelor's degree in chemistry, material science, physics, or similar
- Experience in chemical labs and with the synthesis of materials
- General knowledge of thermodynamics and reaction kinetics
- Independent and structured way of working
- Good communication skills
- Fluent English language skills
- Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR
- Experience with thermogravimetric analyzers is a plus
- General knowledge about carbon capture and utilization is a plus
- German language skills are also beneficial
