Master Student Chemistry Researcher

We are seeking a highly motivated Master Student Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or similar to join our team at the Institute of Future Fuels in Köln. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the development of sustainable technologies for the production of fuels, hydrogen, or commodities in the sunbelt of the earth on an industrial scale.
About the PositionThe successful candidate will be responsible for the experimental evaluation of alternative materials for CO2 capture at high-temperatures. This involves researching novel material systems for CO2 capture based on literature, synthesizing promising materials on a lab scale, evaluating the cyclability of the new materials using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and characterizing promising materials with analytical techniques, e.g. XRD, SEM, BET.
Responsibilities- Conduct literature research on novel material systems for CO2 capture at high temperatures
- Develop and synthesize promising materials on a lab scale
- Evaluate the cyclability of the new materials using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)
- Characterize promising materials with analytical techniques, e.g. XRD, SEM, BET
- University bachelor's degree in chemistry, material science, physics, or similar
- Experience in chemical labs and with the synthesis of materials
- General knowledge of thermodynamics and reaction kinetics
- Independent and structured way of working
- Good communication skills
- Fluent English language skills
- Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR
- Experience with thermogravimetric analyzers is a plus
- General knowledge about carbon capture and utilization is a plus
- German language skills are also beneficial
