Senior Network and Systems Administrator
The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) in Munich serves as a pivotal service hub within the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, employing nearly 100 professionals.
Our primary mission is to deliver electronic publications and publication databases to the 84 Max Planck Institutes and research centers globally, while also assisting them in developing digital research environments.
The Core Service Operations (CSO) division is responsible for providing vital administrative services across all sectors of MPDL, with a particular emphasis on IT and systems management.
Key Responsibilities:- Overseeing and maintaining predominantly virtualized Linux servers (Debian, Ubuntu) along with the applications hosted on them, including web servers, relational database management systems, content management systems, and various web applications.
- Enhancing and optimizing the virtualized server infrastructure utilizing tools such as Puppet and Foreman.
- Crafting and executing backup and recovery strategies.
- Managing and expanding the open-source monitoring tool Icinga.
- Safeguarding and improving the IT security across all systems.
- Administering network operations.
- Completed education in IT or equivalent credentials.
- Extensive experience in Linux server management.
- Proficient understanding of contemporary network and server technologies.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools, Puppet, Git, and VMware-ESXi environments.
- Ideally, experience with application virtualization and continuous integration technologies.
- A diligent, responsible, and collaborative work ethic.
- Eagerness to learn and engage with new technologies.
- Proficient in both German and English.
