Senior Network and Systems Administrator
The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) serves as a pivotal service hub within the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, employing nearly 100 dedicated professionals.
Our primary mission is to deliver electronic publications and comprehensive publication databases to the 84 Max Planck Institutes and research centers globally, while also facilitating the development of digital research environments.
The Core Service Operations (CSO) division is responsible for providing critical administrative support across all MPDL sectors, with a particular emphasis on IT and systems management.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and maintain predominantly virtualized Linux servers (Debian, Ubuntu) along with the applications hosted on them, including web servers, relational database management systems, content management systems, and various web applications.
- Enhance and optimize the virtualized server infrastructure utilizing tools such as Puppet and Foreman.
- Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies.
- Operate and expand the open-source monitoring solution Icinga.
- Ensure and improve the IT security measures across all systems.
- Oversee network administration tasks.
- Completed education in IT or equivalent qualifications.
- Extensive experience in Linux server management.
- Solid understanding of contemporary network and server technologies.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools, Puppet, Git, and VMware-ESXi environments.
- Ideally, experience with application virtualization and continuous integration technologies.
- A meticulous, responsible, and collaborative work approach.
- Eagerness to learn and engage with new technologies.
- Proficient in both German and English.
