Organization: Chicago Youth Centers (CYC)

Position: Custodian/Facilities Specialist/Driver

Compensation: $18-20 per hour

Employment Type: Full Time; Non-Exempt

Reporting To: Childcare Director/Center Director

Supervisory Role: None

Work Schedule: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM; Monday - Friday; hours may vary based on program requirements

Job Purpose: The Custodian/Facilities Specialist/Driver is responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of assigned facilities and grounds, executing tasks as directed by the Childcare Director or Center Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Cleaning Duties:

  • Dust and wipe down furniture; dispose of waste materials
  • Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors; vacuum carpets
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors
  • Ensure soap, paper towels, and tissue dispensers are stocked
  • Replace light bulbs as needed
  • Clean baseboards, air vents, and light fixtures
  • Perform floor maintenance, including stripping, cleaning, buffing, and applying sealers
  • Spot clean walls as necessary
  • Remove snow and ice from designated areas
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs for the building or equipment

Driving Responsibilities:

  • Transport youth from various community schools to the center during the school year
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop a transportation schedule
  • Build relationships with school staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of transportation vehicles on a weekly basis
  • Monitor vehicles for routine and emergency maintenance

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in cleaning and maintenance
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Ability to pass DMV and criminal background checks
  • Capability to climb ladders
  • Willingness to travel between various CYC locations
  • Proficiency in using cleaning products and equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish-speaking) are a plus
  • Knowledge of health, fire, and safety regulations
