Position Overview

The Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (F/M/D). This full-time position is part of an innovative research initiative funded by an ERC Advanced Grant.

Role and Responsibilities

As a member of the Materials Synthetic Biology group led by Prof. Wilfried Weber, you will engage in pioneering research aimed at:

  • Developing and implementing strategies for programming living materials.
  • Facilitating communication between these materials and their environments in a dynamic context.
  • Designing materials that can adapt to both internal and external stimuli, with extensive application potential.

This role will immerse you in an international and interdisciplinary research environment, fostering collaboration and synergy among team members and projects.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD with substantial experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials.
  • A Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • (Engineered) bacterial biofilms or communities.
    • Synthetic gene networks in bacterial or mammalian cells.
    • Hydrogel-based materials as extracellular matrices.
  • Experience and interest in automated, multi-parallel experimental designs with a focus on data-driven optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to manage complex projects.
