Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology to join our dynamic team at the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM). This role is part of an ambitious research initiative funded by an ERC Advanced Grant.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our Materials Synthetic Biology group, you will:
  • Utilize principles of synthetic biology to create and implement innovative concepts for programming living materials.
  • Facilitate communication between engineered materials and their surroundings in a responsive manner.
  • Design materials that adapt seamlessly to both internal and external stimuli, paving the way for diverse applications.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A PhD with substantial experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials.
  • A Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    - Engineered bacterial biofilms or communities
    - Synthetic gene networks in bacteria or mammalian cells
    - Hydrogel-based materials as extracellular matrices
  • Experience with automated, multi-parallel experimental designs and data-driven optimization is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to manage complex projects collaboratively.
