Position Overview

The Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (F/M/D). This role is designed for individuals with a robust background in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials, who are eager to contribute to innovative research.

Role Responsibilities

As a member of the Materials Synthetic Biology group led by Prof. Wilfried Weber, you will:

  • Develop and implement advanced concepts for programming living materials.
  • Facilitate communication between these materials and their environments dynamically.
  • Design materials that adapt seamlessly to varying internal and external conditions.
  • Engage in collaborative projects within an international and interdisciplinary team.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD with substantial experience in relevant fields.
  • A Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related area.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following domains:
    • (Engineered) bacterial biofilms or communities.
    • Synthetic gene networks in bacterial or mammalian cells.
    • Hydrogel-based materials as extracellular matrices.
  • Experience with automated, multi-parallel experimental designs and data-driven optimization is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.
