Position Overview

The Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (F/M/D). This role is a full-time hybrid position based in Saarbrücken, Germany, designed for individuals with professional experience.

About the Role

Under the guidance of Prof. Wilfried Weber, the Materials Synthetic Biology group is offering multiple postdoctoral positions as part of an ERC Advanced Grant initiative. The successful candidate will leverage principles of synthetic biology to create and implement innovative strategies for programming living materials, enabling them to interact dynamically with their surroundings. The goal is to design materials that can seamlessly adapt to both internal and external conditions, opening avenues for diverse applications.

Your Qualifications

  • PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biomaterials, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a comparable discipline.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • (Engineered) bacterial biofilms or communities.
    • Synthetic gene networks in bacteria or mammalian cells.
    • Hydrogel-based materials as extracellular matrices.
  • Ideally, familiarity with automated, multi-parallel experimental designs and data-driven optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary approach, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to manage complex projects with various stakeholders.
