Position OverviewThe Materials Synthetic Biology group, led by Prof. Wilfried Weber, is offering several positions for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (F/M/D) as part of an ERC Advanced Grant initiative.
In this role, you will leverage principles of synthetic biology to create and implement strategies for programming living materials, enabling them to interact dynamically with their surroundings. The objective is to design materials that can adapt seamlessly to both internal and external conditions, presenting a wide range of application possibilities. You will be part of an international and interdisciplinary team with extensive expertise in materials-oriented synthetic biology, fostering collaboration and synergy among team members and projects, supported by robust infrastructure.
Your Qualifications- PhD with substantial experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials.
- Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- (Engineered) bacterial biofilms or communities.
- Synthetic gene networks in bacterial or mammalian cells.
- Hydrogel-based materials serving as extracellular matrices.
- Depending on your background, various postdoctoral roles may be applicable.
- Ideally, familiarity and interest in automated, multi-parallel experimental designs with data-driven optimization.
- Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to manage complex projects with both internal and external collaborators.
- A contract at TV-L 100% E13 level, with a duration until September 30, 2027.
