CH-47 Aircraft Mechanic Level 3 is responsible for executing a comprehensive array of military tactical aircraft maintenance tasks, including assembly and modification of the designated aircraft ( CH-47), along with their primary assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and associated systems.

  • Conduct the full spectrum of military tactical aircraft maintenance activities.
  • Install, connect, and calibrate complete systems such as fuel, heating, lubrication, hydraulic, engine, and transmission; install and align fuselage components; balance, align, and fit tail rotor assemblies; rig complete flight control systems.
  • Implement authorized modifications and alterations.
  • Perform operational checks of hydraulic and fuel systems utilizing external power sources and powered ground equipment.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot to identify the root cause of malfunctions; disassemble to the point of failure; adjust, repair, realign, or replace defective components or assemblies.
  • Supervise the work of lower-graded mechanics for the complete assembly, modification, and checkout of the entire aircraft, coordinating with related trades such as electrical, avionics, and sheet metal to ensure the proper sequence of the complete aircraft assembly process.
  • Possess knowledge of the structure, operation, installation, and modification of a diverse range of aircraft classes, models, and series, including their major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and related systems.
  • Exhibit technical expertise regarding the aircraft models and components/sub-assemblies assigned for maintenance, modification, and repair.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assemble various system assemblies and sub-assemblies, such as fuel and hydraulic systems, tail boom assemblies, and the power train. Must be capable of connecting, meshing, aligning, and adjusting the systems with one another and determining the installation sequence for proper coordination of the entire aircraft assembly process.
  • Proficiently utilize a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches, and scales, as well as test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment specific to the aircraft models.
  • Capable of troubleshooting and determining when faulty systems or assemblies can or cannot be rectified through repair or replacement of new parts, including the nature and extent of repair required.
  • Execute other qualified duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant aircraft maintenance experience is essential.
  • FAA A&P OR FCC Elements 1 and 3 Required.
  • FAA (A&P) certification is required, with at least two (2) years of aviation maintenance experience, and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (CH-47).
  • All experience must be within the last five (5) years.
  • If no A&P certification, must possess an FCC License with (Elements 1 and 3) and three (3) years of aviation maintenance experience, three (3) years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned CH-47 Mission Design Series (MDS).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance, NAC-I T1 Public Trust. US Citizenship is required to secure a T1/CAC NACI Clearance.
  • Interim NACI approval is required for deployment.
  • A valid US Passport is required for deployment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must possess the experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I and II and must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures, and replacement of parts, requiring broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of aircraft-specific tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
  • Must have a working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, utilizing the Army's Logistics Information System (ACN, ULLS-A).
  • Must have a basic understanding of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
  • Must have the ability to assess the functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of aircraft-specific tools such as cable tensiometers.
  • Ability to read, apply, and interpret technical data.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be capable of climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, crouching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be immediately deployable to potential combat areas worldwide.
