Position Overview

The Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (F/M/D). This role involves full-time engagement in a hybrid work environment, focusing on the innovative intersection of synthetic biology and material science.

Research Focus

As part of an ERC Advanced Grant initiative, you will leverage principles of synthetic biology to create and refine living materials capable of dynamic interaction with their surroundings. The goal is to engineer materials that can seamlessly adjust to both internal and external stimuli, opening avenues for diverse applications. You will collaborate within a vibrant, international team renowned for its expertise in materials-oriented synthetic biology, fostering synergies across various projects.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

- A PhD with substantial experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials.
- A Master's degree in biology, materials science, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related field.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
- Engineered bacterial biofilms or communities
- Synthetic gene networks in bacterial or mammalian systems
- Hydrogel-based materials serving as extracellular matrices
- Experience and interest in automated, multi-parallel experimental designs with a focus on data-driven optimization.
- Strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to manage complex projects involving both internal and external collaborators.
