Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Risk Engineer specializing in Engineering & Construction (E&C) with a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering, ideally complemented by experience in the insurance sector. This role is pivotal in providing expert technical guidance to our E&C underwriting teams across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer insights to underwriters regarding risk quality, loss projections, and preventative measures for our E&C portfolio.
- Analyze and summarize submissions, including third-party technical risk assessments.
- Conduct on-site risk evaluations and progress assessments to validate clients' risk management strategies and propose enhancements.
- Engage closely with underwriters and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
This position entails global responsibilities, and our team comprises individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, making it essential to thrive in an international setting.
Team Dynamics:
The RES E&C team, part of RES Energy, currently includes three engineers and an additional contractor in EMEA, with counterparts in North America and Asia Pacific. Our objective is to expand this team to six to eight members in the coming years.
As a key member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team, you will be recognized as an expert in this specialized industry, contributing to various initiatives and publications that highlight best practices, guidelines, technological advancements, and industry trends.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrating a high level of analytical capability and attention to detail.
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience within the construction sector (design, project leadership, site management, commissioning).
- Experience in the heavy manufacturing domain (construction only; operational experience is advantageous).
- Practical experience on significant infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Strong familiarity with project management tools (scheduling, cost management, procurement).
- Interest or experience in loss prevention topics (fire safety, technical risk management, machinery breakdown, construction safety).
- Comprehensive understanding of international loss prevention/fire protection standards (e.g., NFPA or equivalent).
- Proficiency in German and English is essential; additional languages are a plus.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Desirable Attributes:
- Prior experience as an insurance risk engineer within a brokerage or insurance firm is advantageous.
- Project management training or certifications.
- Solid understanding of the Insurance E&C sector is beneficial.
