About the Position
We are seeking a Senior Risk Engineer specializing in Engineering & Construction (E&C) with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering, ideally complemented by experience in the insurance sector. This role is pivotal within our E&C division, serving the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, where you will provide essential technical guidance to our E&C underwriters.
We are particularly interested in candidates who possess hands-on experience in construction, installation, and commissioning within heavy manufacturing sectors such as automotive, power equipment manufacturing, steel production, pulp and paper, cement, or similar industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise underwriters on risk assessment, loss projections, and preventative measures for our E&C portfolio.
- Review, analyze, and summarize submissions, including third-party technical risk assessments.
- Conduct on-site risk evaluations and progress assessments to validate clients' risk mitigation strategies and offer recommendations for improvement.
- Engage closely with underwriters and various internal and external stakeholders.

About the Team
The RES E&C team is part of RES Energy, currently consisting of three engineers and an additional contractor across EMEA, with further representation in North America and Asia Pacific. Our objective is to expand this team to six to eight members in the coming years.
As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team, you will become an expert in this specialized industry, contributing to various initiatives and publications that focus on best practices, guidelines, technological advancements, and industry insights.
About You
You are an effective communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail.
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction sector (design, project leadership, site management, commissioning).
- Experience in the heavy manufacturing industry (construction only; operational experience is advantageous).
- Practical project experience in significant infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Proficient knowledge of project management tools (scheduling, cost management, procurement).
- Interest or experience in loss prevention topics (fire safety, technical risk management, machinery breakdown, construction safety).
- Familiarity with international loss prevention and fire protection standards (e.g., NFPA or equivalent).
- Fluency in German and English is essential; additional languages are a plus.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as an insurance risk engineer at a brokerage or insurance firm is beneficial.
- Project management training or certifications.
- Understanding of the Insurance E&C sector is advantageous.
