Apparel Development Manager

Overview of the Role:

The five positions will be distributed across various Business Units (Running & Credibility Sports, Football, Sportswear & Training, Originals).

As the Apparel Development Manager, you will oversee the comprehensive development process for assigned products of medium complexity, guiding them from concept to production readiness. Collaboration with experts in patterns and materials, along with product marketing, design, and suppliers, will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities:


• Oversee the complete apparel development management process for designated products, focusing on product integrity, engineering, and timely task completion in line with corporate schedules. Utilize sport-specific insights to enhance product functionality.

• Manage the fit approval and size specification processes, lead fitting meetings, and make decisions regarding workmanship and construction.

• Provide technical insights by evaluating designs for manufacturability, production, and material characteristics that meet desired functionality and market appeal.

• Ensure a smooth transition of design packs to Tier 1 suppliers, guaranteeing that all technical information is comprehensive.

• Serve as a technical authority, advising design and product marketing on manufacturing efficiency recommendations from Tier 1 suppliers. Manage feedback to Tier 1.

• Investigate innovations from the market or suppliers concerning garment construction, patterns, fit, embellishments, and trims. Collaborate with Innovation, Sourcing, and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate these innovations into product development.

• Review, validate, and approve costing information from Tier 1 to ensure products are developed within budgetary constraints throughout the creation process. Secure initial cost quotes and monitor price adjustments, ensuring final costs comply with adidas standards.

• Ensure that all materials, trims, colors, processes, and development samples undergo thorough testing to meet adidas' quality and testing benchmarks.

• Address quality and process escalations with senior management as necessary.

• If needed, assess size sets for measurement accuracy and the marketability of the complete size range for fit.

• Review and approve sealing samples with complete Approval Documents prior to readiness for purchase dates.

• Ensure full compliance with published policies to secure final legal Approval Documents for the finished product.

• Maintain accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data by consistently updating the system.

• Responsible for achieving specific KPIs (e.g., on-time readiness for purchase, target FOB, margins, sustainability, and timely delivery of samples) for assigned products.

• Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and mentor junior team members.

• Support cross-functional projects as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


• In-depth knowledge of material construction and associated testing

• Proficient understanding of wear and physical product testing

• Extensive knowledge of garment construction and manufacturing processes

• Ability to fit garments and provide feedback to Tier 1 on necessary modifications

• Advanced understanding of costing and negotiation skills

• Strong communication and negotiation abilities

• Proficient in English (both written and spoken)

• Strong IT skills (MS Office) and familiarity with Product Data Management Systems

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:


• A university degree in clothing technology or manufacturing, or a technical degree as an apparel technician.

• Alternatively, a combination of relevant education, experience, and training.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in apparel product development.
