Apparel Development Manager

Overview of the Role:

The five positions will be distributed across various Business Units (Running & Credibility Sports, Football, Sportswear & Training, Originals).

Our dedicated product development teams meticulously craft each garment, footwear, and accessory for countless athletes and fashion enthusiasts, treating every item as a unique creation. This intricate process of transforming designs and concepts into tangible products demands critical decision-making.

As the Apparel Development Manager, you will oversee the comprehensive development process for designated medium complexity products, guiding them from initial concept to production readiness. You will collaborate closely with experts in pattern making and materials, as well as product marketing, design, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:


• Take ownership of the complete apparel development management process for assigned products, focusing on product integrity, engineering, and timely execution of all tasks in line with the corporate operating calendar. Utilize sport-specific insights to enhance product performance.

• Manage the fit approval and size specification process, lead fitting sessions, and make decisions regarding workmanship and construction.

• Provide technical solutions by evaluating designs for manufacturability, production, and material properties that align with desired functionality and market appeal.

• Oversee the transition of design packs to Tier 1 suppliers, ensuring all technical information is comprehensive.

• Serve as a technical authority, advising design and product marketing on manufacturing efficiency suggestions from Tier 1 suppliers. Manage feedback to Tier 1.

• Investigate innovations from the market or suppliers concerning garment construction, patterns, fit, embellishments, and trims. Collaborate with Innovation, Sourcing, and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate these innovations into product development.

• Review, validate, and approve Tier 1 costing information to ensure products are engineered within cost targets throughout the creation process. Secure initial FOB cost quotes and monitor price adjustments. Ensure final costs comply with adidas standards.

• Ensure all fabrics, trims, colors, processes, and development samples undergo thorough testing to meet adidas' quality and testing standards.

• Manage quality and process escalations with senior management as necessary.

• If needed, assess size sets for measurement accuracy and overall merchantability of the complete size range for fit.

• Review and approve sealing samples with complete AD, including all related documentation, prior to buy-ready dates.

• Ensure full compliance with published policies to secure a final legal AD for the product.

• Maintain accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data by consistently updating the system.

• Responsible for achieving specific KPIs (e.g., on-time buy readiness, target FOB, margins, sustainability, and on-time SMS delivery, CR2 finalization) for assigned articles/products.

• Promote a culture of knowledge sharing and mentor junior team members.

• Support cross-functional projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


• In-depth knowledge of material construction and associated testing

• Advanced understanding of wear and physical product testing

• Comprehensive knowledge of production garment construction and manufacturing

• Proficient in fitting garments and providing feedback to Tier 1 on necessary changes

• Strong understanding of costing and negotiation skills

• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities

• Proficient in English (written and spoken)

• Strong IT skills (MS Office) and experience with Product Data Management Systems

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:


• University degree in clothing technology or manufacturing, or a technical degree as an apparel technician.

• Alternatively, a combination of relevant education, experience, and training.

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in apparel product development.
