Strategic Commodity Procurement Specialist, EU

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Commodity Buyer, EU (Plastics) to join our Global Purchasing Team in Europe. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing purchasing strategies that align with our company's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute successful purchasing strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Define bidder lists, conduct supplier negotiations, and recommend suppliers for new business awards.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through negotiation, resource optimization, and the use of value analysis and engineering (VA/VE) techniques.
  • Support the escalation process by addressing supplier-related issues, such as shortages, commercial discussions, and quality concerns, and coordinating activities between suppliers and divisions.
  • Evaluate potential new suppliers and assess their capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing team to develop target costing for plastic parts.
  • Identify and promote process improvements within the purchasing function.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and data.
  • Conduct regular benchmarks and commercial negotiations in alignment with commodity strategy and divisional objectives.
  • Provide training and support to divisional buyers on commodity basics.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in purchasing, preferably in the plastics industry and an automotive or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous commodity experience, including plastics, is mandatory, and experience with other commodities, such as resins, is appreciated.
  • Proven success in strategic and operational purchasing of direct and indirect materials.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 20% of the time.
  • Excellent English language skills are mandatory.
  • Advanced Excel skills are appreciated.
  • Ability to lead functionally and motivate a team of divisional buyers.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting to top management.
  • Self-driven individual with a proactive approach to seeking improvements and innovation.
  • Positive attitude and ability to remain calm in complex situations.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, business, or a related field.
