Job Purpose:

This position is dedicated to advancing and executing the Process Safety Management (PSM) Agenda at Synthomer. The role involves spearheading continuous improvement initiatives in PSM through site visits and support, while fostering a sustainable Process Safety culture that aligns with corporate and local legislative standards. The successful candidate will promote the exchange of best practices and incident insights across sites and deliver specialized training as needed. Additionally, the role includes developing local Process Safety performance metrics and conducting audits to ensure compliance and effectiveness of systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain PSM policies and guidelines in accordance with Synthomer's Global PSM procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Secure resource commitment for the implementation of site-specific PSM policies and the ongoing enhancement of process safety.
  • Participate in the Group SHE audit process to assess site performance and adherence to established standards.
  • Provide leadership and support to sites in evaluating and enhancing Process Safety through regular Network meetings.
  • Offer Process Safety guidance to ensure proper focus on PSM during capital projects, acquisitions, and process transitions.
  • Facilitate various Process Safety studies, including Hazard Studies, HAZOP, Human Factors Analysis, SIL Assessment, and more.
  • Ensure that relevant PSM training is accessible to the entire workforce.
  • Assist in accident and incident investigations, ensuring that lessons learned are shared and improvements are sustained.
  • Develop and monitor accountability for performance against specific site Process Safety objectives, utilizing established Performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with the Process Safety and SHE teams to share knowledge and define the future Process Safety agenda.
  • Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of the PSM System through a structured program of Monitoring, Auditing, and Reviewing.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline is essential, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required, including at least 3 years in Process Safety Management or related roles within the chemical sector.
  • Proven experience in implementing Human Factors, HAZOP, PHA, and Functional Safety programs is desirable, although a thorough understanding of these areas is essential.
  • A safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • This role will involve significant travel (approximately 20%), including trips of up to 1 week within Europe and 2 weeks outside of Europe.
