Job Purpose:
This position is dedicated to advancing the implementation and development of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Agenda at Synthomer. The role involves leading continuous improvement initiatives in PSM through site support and visits, while fostering a sustainable Process Safety culture that aligns with corporate and local legislative requirements. The role also emphasizes the importance of sharing best practices and incident learnings across sites, alongside providing specialized training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain PSM policies and guidelines that align with Synthomer's Global PSM procedures and relevant legislation.
- Secure resource commitment for the implementation of site-specific PSM policies and guidelines, ensuring ongoing enhancements in process safety.
- Conduct audits as part of the Group SHE audit process to verify site performance and compliance with established standards.
- Lead and support sites in enhancing Process Safety through regular Process Safety Network meetings.
- Provide guidance to ensure that PSM is adequately considered during capital projects, acquisitions, mothballing, and process phase-outs.
- Facilitate comprehensive Process Safety studies across the group, including Hazard Studies, HAZOP, Human Factors Analysis, SIL Assessment, Functional Safety Management, Hazardous Area Classification, and Pressure Relief Calculations.
- Ensure relevant PSM training is accessible to the entire workforce to promote understanding and adherence.
- Assist in accident and incident investigations, ensuring that lessons learned are effectively shared and improvements are implemented.
- Develop and monitor accountability for performance against specific site Process Safety goals, utilizing Process Safety Performance indicators.
- Collaborate with the Process Safety and SHE team to share knowledge and define the future Process Safety agenda.
- Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of the PSM System through a structured program of monitoring, auditing, and reviewing.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline is essential, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required, including at least 3 years in Process Safety Management or related roles within the chemical sector.
- Proven experience in implementing Human Factors, HAZOP, PHA, and Functional Safety (IEC) programs is desirable, with a thorough understanding of these areas being essential.
- A safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- This role will involve significant travel (20%), including trips of 1 week within Europe and 2 weeks outside of Europe.
