Role Purpose:
This position is designed to facilitate the implementation and advancement of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Agenda at Synthomer. The role will focus on driving continuous improvement initiatives in PSM through site support and visits, while fostering a sustainable Process Safety culture that aligns with corporate and local legislative standards. The specialist will promote the exchange of best practices and incident learnings across various sites and provide essential specialized training. Additionally, the role involves developing local Process Safety performance metrics and conducting audits to ensure compliance and effectiveness of systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain PSM policies and guidelines in accordance with Synthomer's Global PSM procedures and applicable legislation.
- Secure resource commitment for the implementation of site-specific PSM policies and guidelines, ensuring ongoing enhancements in process safety.
- Conduct audits as part of the Group SHE audit process to assess site performance and adherence to established standards.
- Lead and support sites in enhancing Process Safety through regular Process Safety Network meetings.
- Provide expert guidance to ensure that PSM considerations are integrated into capital projects, acquisitions, mothballing, and process phase-outs.
- Facilitate comprehensive Process Safety studies across the organization, including Hazard Studies, HAZOP, Human Factors Analysis, SIL Assessment, Functional Safety Management, Hazardous Area Classification, and Pressure Relief Calculations.
- Ensure that relevant PSM training is accessible to the entire workforce to enhance understanding and compliance.
- Assist in accident and incident investigations, ensuring that lessons learned are documented, shared, and implemented effectively.
- Develop and monitor clear accountability for performance against specific site Process Safety objectives, utilizing Process Safety Performance indicators.
- Collaborate with the Process Safety and SHE teams to share knowledge, best practices, and define the future PSM agenda.
- Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of the PSM System through a structured program of monitoring, auditing, and reviewing.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- A degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline is essential, with specializations such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering being preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required, including at least 3 years in Process Safety Management or related roles within the chemical sector.
- Proven experience in implementing Human Factors, HAZOP, PHA, and Functional Safety (IEC) programs is desirable, though a comprehensive understanding of these areas is crucial.
- A safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- This role will involve significant travel (20%), requiring trips of 1 week within Europe and up to 2 weeks outside of Europe.
