YOUR MISSION:

In the maintenance engineering for the Galileo Ground Segment, you will play a vital role in supporting our Level 1 IT team, which is essential for the success of our mission. Your primary focus will be on diagnosing and resolving issues within the IT infrastructure to ensure the reliability and functionality of our sophisticated satellite ground control systems, including customized server, switch, and firewall solutions. We seek an IT engineer or specialist who is eager to learn, adaptable, and thrives in a dynamic environment, ready to tackle new challenges and solve complex problems. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills alongside technical expertise.
You should be adept at understanding challenges, identifying patterns, processing intricate information swiftly to make informed decisions, and devising effective solutions.
Upholding confidentiality, integrity, and compliance with stringent security protocols is paramount.

Your responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the IT infrastructure (Unix and Windows) for the Ground Control and Mission Segments, ensuring continuous operation and addressing technical issues proactively.
  • Administer user and root accounts across various systems.
  • Facilitate the installation and verification of new components within the Galileo Ground Segment.
  • Develop and refine maintenance procedures for Ground Control and Mission Segment systems based on existing documentation.
  • Validate and execute maintenance protocols for deployed hardware and software.
  • Conduct system tests, including interface assessments, according to established procedures.
  • Document all activities and configurations within a ticketing system.
  • Research and implement innovative solutions to enhance IT systems.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call maintenance service on a weekly basis.

YOUR QUALIFICATION:

  • A completed degree (Master's / Bachelor's) in technical or scientific fields such as computer science, telecommunications, or business informatics, or equivalent qualifications as an IT specialist in system integration, digital networking, or data analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of various operating systems, particularly Linux and Windows (Server).
  • Proficient in Linux command line usage.
  • Understanding of network protocols and database management systems.
  • Experience in system/network engineering and administration is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with server infrastructure maintenance (hardware, virtualization) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Galileo or similar navigation ground segments is a plus.
  • Awareness of ITIL processes and project management is beneficial.
  • Commitment to adhering to strict security policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a team.
  • Availability for on-call support and occasional travel to other operational sites.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential; knowledge of German or Italian is a plus.
