DLR GfR mbH is a leading provider of dependable and secure aerospace solutions. We are responsible for the operation and management of the Galileo satellite constellation from our control center.

Our headquarters is situated in a picturesque region known for its recreational opportunities, close to Munich. Our dedicated team of approximately 280 professionals collaborates in international and interdisciplinary environments to advance navigation technologies.

YOUR MISSION:

We are seeking an IT professional to enhance our Level 1 IT support team, which is vital to the success of our Galileo mission. You will be tasked with diagnosing and resolving issues within the IT infrastructure to ensure the reliability and performance of our sophisticated satellite ground control systems, including customized server, switch, and firewall configurations. The ideal candidate will be an IT engineer or specialist eager to learn, adaptable, and enthusiastic about engaging in practical projects and problem-solving. Strong organizational skills are essential to complement your technical abilities.
You should possess the capability to analyze issues, identify patterns, process complex information swiftly, and devise effective solutions.
A commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and adherence to stringent security protocols is crucial.

Your responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the IT infrastructure (Unix and Windows) for the 24/7 Galileo mission, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of technical issues.
  • Oversee user and root account administration on various systems.
  • Install and validate new and replacement components within the Galileo Ground Segment.
  • Develop maintenance protocols for Ground Control and Mission Segment systems based on existing documentation.
  • Validate and execute maintenance procedures for deployed hardware and software.
  • Conduct system tests, including interface testing, according to established procedures.
  • Document activities and configurations within a ticketing system.
  • Research and implement innovative solutions to enhance IT systems.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call maintenance service on a weekly basis.

YOUR QUALIFICATION:

  • A completed degree (Master's / Bachelor's) in technical or scientific fields such as computer science, telecommunications, or business informatics, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proficient knowledge of various operating systems, particularly Linux and Windows (Server).
  • Basic Linux skills and proficient command line usage (Shell).
  • Understanding of network protocols and database management systems.
  • Experience in system/network engineering and administration is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with server infrastructure maintenance (hardware, virtualization) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Galileo or similar navigation ground segments is a plus.
  • Awareness of ITIL processes and project management is advantageous.
  • Willingness to comply with strict security policies and regulations.
  • Strong team orientation and effective communication skills.
  • Availability for on-call support and occasional travel to other sites.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English is mandatory; knowledge of German or Italian is an advantage.
