Position Overview:
The Behavior Genetics Unit at the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology is seeking applications for a PhD position with a fixed term of 36 months. This role offers a salary scale of 13 TVöD (65%) and involves collaboration with esteemed researchers, A/Prof. Dr. Miriam Mosing and Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén.

Project Focus:
The research project aims to investigate the intricate relationships between creativity, substance use, and mental health within a population-based sample. While there is considerable speculation regarding drug use in creative fields, empirical data on the associations between substance use and creativity remains limited. This project will explore the direction of these effects and the potential influence of genetic factors.

Research Goals:
1. To analyze the relationship between creativity and mental health issues, considering the shared genetic liabilities.
2. To clarify the role of substance use in the context of creativity and mental health.

Methodology:
The research will utilize a longitudinal, population-based twin cohort that is genetically informative, allowing for a comprehensive examination of these relationships while accounting for genetic confounding.

Research Environment:
The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary scientific environment. The department focuses on using music as a model to understand the brain mechanisms that underpin human expertise, skill acquisition, and creativity. The institute is located in a vibrant area with excellent infrastructure, providing a modern workplace with flexible working hours.

Requirements:
Applicants should possess a Master's degree in behavior genetics, psychology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. Proficiency in both oral and written English is essential. A strong background in statistical methods, including structural equation modeling, twin and family designs, and/or molecular genetics, is highly desirable. Experience with large data sets or registry data will be an advantage.

Collaboration:
This position will involve close collaboration with the Swedish Twin Registry and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, as well as the Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC).
