The Behavior Genetics Unit at the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology is seeking candidates for a PhD Position on a fixed-term basis (36 months), with a salary scale of 13 TVöD (65%).
Project FocusThis role involves collaboration with A/Prof. Dr. Miriam Mosing and Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén on a research project aimed at understanding the connections between creativity, substance use, and mental health within a population-based sample.
Despite ongoing discussions regarding the impact of drug use in creative fields, there is limited empirical data on the precise relationships between substance use and creativity, including the directionality of these effects and the influence of genetic factors.
Additionally, while a link between creativity and mental health issues has been established, the role of substance use in this dynamic remains ambiguous.
Research MethodologyThe project will leverage a longitudinal, population-based, and genetically informative twin cohort to explore these relationships, taking into account genetic confounding factors.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén, the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology at the MPIEA utilizes music as a framework to investigate the brain mechanisms that support human expertise, skill acquisition, and creativity.
Candidate RequirementsApplicants should possess a Master's degree in behavior genetics, psychology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline, along with a strong command of both oral and written English.
A robust methodological background in statistics, including structural equation modeling, twin and family designs, and/or molecular genetics, as well as experience in managing registry or large datasets, is highly advantageous.
Work EnvironmentThe research will be conducted at the MPIEA in a collaborative setting with the Swedish Twin Registry and Karolinska Institutet, as well as the Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC).
The MPIEA offers a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment, with English as the primary language of communication. The institute is situated in a well-connected area with excellent infrastructure.
