The Behavior Genetics Unit at the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology is seeking candidates for a fixed-term PhD position (36 months) with a salary scale of 13 TVöD (65%).
This role involves collaboration with A/Prof. Dr. Miriam Mosing and Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén on a research project aimed at exploring the connections between creativity, substance use, and mental health within a population-based sample.
Despite prevalent theories regarding substance use in creative fields, particularly in professional music, empirical data on the precise relationships and effects of substance use on creativity remains limited. Additionally, while the link between creativity and mental health issues has been established, the influence of substance use within this context is still not well understood.
This project will leverage a longitudinal, population-based twin cohort that is genetically informative to investigate these relationships, taking into account the potential for genetic confounding.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén, the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics utilizes music as a framework to analyze the neural mechanisms that underpin human expertise, skill acquisition, and creativity.
Requirements:
- A Master's degree in behavior genetics, psychology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline.
- High proficiency in both oral and written English.
- A robust methodological background in statistics, including structural equation modeling, twin and family designs, and/or molecular genetics.
- Experience with large data sets or registry data is highly advantageous.
The research will be conducted at the MPIEA in Frankfurt am Main, in close collaboration with the Swedish Twin Registry and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, as well as the Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC).
The MPIEA offers a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment, with English as the primary language of communication. The institute is situated in a prime location with excellent infrastructure in Frankfurt's Westend, providing a modern workplace with flexible working hours and a supportive atmosphere.
Regular travel to the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm will be part of the role, and a longer research stay at the Amsterdam UMC is anticipated.
The position is set to commence as soon as possible, with a fixed-term duration of three years and a working schedule of 39 hours per week. Compensation is aligned with the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund, E 13 [65%]), supplemented by an annual bonus.
