Position Overview: The Behavior Genetics Unit at the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology is seeking candidates for a PhD Position with a fixed term of 36 months, offering a salary scale of 13 TVöD (65%).

Project Focus: This role involves collaboration with A/Prof. Dr. Miriam Mosing and Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén on a research project aimed at exploring the intricate relationships between creativity, substance use, and mental health within a population-based sample. While there is considerable speculation regarding drug use in creative fields, empirical data on the connections between substance use and creativity, including the direction of effects and genetic influences, remains limited. Additionally, the project will investigate the established links between creativity and mental health issues, particularly the impact of substance use in this context.

Research Environment: The Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics employs music as a model to investigate the brain mechanisms that underpin human expertise, skill acquisition, and creativity. Candidate Requirements: Applicants should possess a Master's degree in behavior genetics, psychology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. Proficiency in both oral and written English is essential. A strong methodological background in statistics, including structural equation modeling, twin and family designs, and/or molecular genetics, along with experience in managing registry or large datasets, is highly desirable.

Research Collaboration: The research will be conducted at the MPIEA in Frankfurt am Main, in close partnership with the Swedish Twin Registry and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, as well as the Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC). The MPIEA provides a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment, with English as the primary language of communication. The institute is situated in a well-connected area of Frankfurt, offering a modern workplace with flexible working hours and a supportive atmosphere. Regular travel to the Karolinska Institutet and a planned extended research stay at the Amsterdam UMC will be part of the role.
