Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher / Economist to contribute to the ifo Center for Migration and Development Economics. This role involves engaging in cutting-edge research that addresses the complexities of migration and the integration of immigrants.

Research Focus
The research team, led by Prof. Panu Poutvaara, investigates the multifaceted causes and impacts of migration. A key focus is on how migration can yield benefits for migrants, host nations, and countries of origin. Current research emphasizes the integration outcomes of Ukrainian refugees across various European nations, utilizing ongoing surveys.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research in the fields of migration economics and integration or development economics.
  • Managing and executing third-party funded projects.
  • Providing mentorship to doctoral candidates.
  • Publishing research findings in esteemed peer-reviewed journals.
  • Communicating research outcomes to a broader audience.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in economics with specialization in migration economics, labor economics, applied microeconomics, or a related discipline, with a PhD completed or nearing completion.
  • A proven track record of relevant knowledge and experience demonstrated through publications in recognized academic journals.
  • Strong expertise in microeconometric methods and applied economics.
  • Experience with large datasets and machine learning techniques is advantageous.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to engage confidently in an international research network.
  • Knowledge of the German language is a plus.
  • A collaborative spirit and a sense of responsibility.
