As we expand our SEO division, we are in search of a Director of Search Engine Optimization to elevate our business operations.

The SEO and YouTube division is accountable for our performance in organic search engines and YouTube results across various markets and sectors (Website Builder, Hosting, Solar, etc.) that betterbusiness GmbH engages with. This role requires close cooperation with other departments within the organization, such as Partner Management, Content, Performance Marketing, Lead Generation, Development, and Data Analytics. Our approach is heavily data-driven; we utilize data to formulate hypotheses and construct our business cases. We consistently aim to implement scalable solutions that can be deployed across all markets and sectors, gathering data points to evaluate their effectiveness and continually learn and enhance our strategies.

This position presents a unique opportunity to significantly influence our scaling process and to shape the future of our SEO team. We seek an experienced leader with recent hands-on Technical SEO expertise who can devise and implement a global SEO strategy while deliberately developing the skills of current team members and selectively recruiting talent that will drive the success of the entire unit. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about utilizing modern technologies to minimize costs and eliminate redundant tasks, including various automation tools and AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume complete responsibility for SEO and YouTube across multiple countries and platforms.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on essential KPIs to ensure transparency in our SEO and YouTube success.
  • Lead the development of our internal SEO and YouTube tools and reporting framework utilizing our internal tracking and attribution tool, content management system, Snowplow, and Tableau.
  • Define our SEO strategy in alignment with our ROI objectives and oversee its execution from inception to completion.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, continuous learning, and development within your SEO/YouTube team while ensuring team health remains stable or improves.
  • Collaborate closely with the development team to implement SEO features and tools.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in SEO and YouTube (Google Updates, SERP features, SGE, etc.), evaluate their implications for our strategy, and take appropriate action.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an SEO leadership role, ideally in an international setting.
  • Experience working in small teams and a willingness to engage in hands-on tasks.

  • Excellent communication skills to advance SEO and YouTube initiatives across various stakeholders.

  • The ability to translate complex strategies into actionable tasks and effectively communicate them to stakeholders and team members.
  • Strong analytical skills with a preference for data-driven decision-making.
  • Capability to devise scalable solutions and oversee their implementation from start to finish.
  • A solid grasp of technical SEO fundamentals (e.g., client-server interactions, HTTP status codes, crawling/rendering/indexing processes, HTML, and CSS).
  • A willingness to acquire the necessary skills to create an efficient working environment, such as automation with Zapier, SQL, Tableau, JavaScript, and data extraction from APIs, Google Sheets/Excel.
  • Proficient in common SEO tools (e.g., Search Console, ahrefs, NeuronWriter, Screaming Frog, Sistrix).
  • Fluent in German and proficient in English, both spoken and written, to communicate effectively in our international working environment.

This role is fully remote, with the requirement that candidates are based within European time zones. Employment terms vary based on location.
