The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) is a prominent research institution focused on innovative solutions for a sustainable future. With a workforce of approximately 1,300 and a substantial budget, HZB is dedicated to advancing research in sustainable energy materials and technologies.
Your Responsibilities
As the Administrative Director, you will collaborate closely with the Scientific Director to oversee the organization’s administrative and operational functions. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the comprehensive business and administrative operations, encompassing human resources, finance, procurement, legal matters, and facility management.
- Reporting regularly to the Supervisory Board regarding organizational performance and strategic initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with mandated tasks, particularly in occupational health and safety, radiation protection, and export liability.
- Leading the digital transformation efforts within HZB and overseeing the decommissioning of the research reactor.
- Fostering strong partnerships with federal and state funding agencies, other Helmholtz Centers, and various national and international collaborators.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A university degree or equivalent qualification for higher civil service positions, with a strong foundation in business and legal principles.
- Strategic thinking capabilities, an entrepreneurial mindset, and proficiency in managing complex projects.
- Experience in engaging with committees and navigating political landscapes.
- A proven track record in leadership roles with significant responsibilities in research management or civil service administration.
- Strong financial management skills relevant to research institutions.
- Excellent communication and motivational abilities, with a commitment to diversity and equality.
- Fluency in both German and English.
