Position Overview

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) is a prominent research institution focused on advancing sustainable energy solutions. With a dedicated workforce of approximately 1,300 professionals and a substantial budget, HZB is committed to addressing the challenges of climate change through innovative research.

Your Responsibilities

As the Administrative Director, you will collaborate closely with the Scientific Director to oversee the entire administrative and business operations of HZB. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing human resources, finance, procurement, and legal affairs.
  • Overseeing facility management, including construction and maintenance projects.
  • Regularly reporting to the Supervisory Board on organizational performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Driving the digital transformation initiatives within HZB.
  • Coordinating the decommissioning of the BER II research reactor.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A university degree or equivalent qualification for higher civil service positions.
  • Strong business and legal acumen, particularly in public funding and budget management.
  • Strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Experience in leadership roles within research institutions or similar organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills in both German and English.
