Your role
You will be responsible for leading an independent research group focused on innovative and original research within the expansive field of genome biology. Your group will thrive in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment that encourages interaction with various research teams.
As a new faculty member at EMBL, you will integrate into a vibrant community, benefiting from the diverse research opportunities available throughout the institute.
EMBL typically appoints group leaders early in their careers, providing a supportive, collegial, and family-friendly atmosphere conducive to developing pioneering research. You will receive substantial annual core funding for the duration of your appointment, access to world-class core facilities, and the opportunity to work with exceptional Ph.D. students and post-docs, all while maintaining minimal teaching responsibilities to facilitate the success of your ambitious research program.
We welcome applicants from all areas of genome biology that explore and/or model complex processes. This includes innovative research in genome regulation (transcription, translation, protein activity), genome engineering, proteomics, genotype-phenotype-environment interactions, and single-cell biology.
Contract details:
- Contract duration: 5 years
- Grading: Grade 9 (Monthly salary starting at €6,644 after tax but excluding pension & insurances) + benefits

Candidate profile
Applicants should present a concise research plan with original and ambitious goals. A strong Ph.D. and post-doctoral track record in natural sciences is essential, along with an interest in the broader field of genome biology. Candidates with backgrounds in computer science, (bio)informatics/mathematics, engineering, or physics, who are eager to understand the molecular complexity of cells, are also encouraged to apply.

Research vision
EMBL's scientific direction, Molecules to Ecosystems, aims to enhance our understanding of ecosystems at the molecular level. This involves applying expertise in molecular biology to study life in its natural context. Research areas include experimental, computational, and theoretical approaches to investigate how cells and organisms interact and respond to environmental changes at various levels (molecules, cells, tissues, and populations). We are particularly interested in hosting scientists who can creatively enhance and extend these research themes.
