The Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) is seeking a highly motivated and innovative leader to establish and direct an independent Junior Research Group focused on Target Screening and Immunoreceptor Engineering for Immunotherapy.
About the Institution
The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) represents a collaborative effort among the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and several prestigious partners in university medicine, dedicated to advancing cancer research and treatment.
Research Focus
The successful candidate will concentrate on the development of engineered immune cells and the clinical characterization of tumor antigen expression, which includes receptors and ligands. This work will support Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs), facilitating patient stratification and ongoing monitoring of therapeutic responses and resistance mechanisms.
Collaborative Environment
The Junior Research Group will benefit from a robust research ecosystem, collaborating closely with leading experts in immuno-oncology, biomonitoring, and advanced imaging across various NCT sites and at DKFZ Heidelberg.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for individuals who possess:
- A Master's degree and PhD in biology or a related field, or an MD degree.
- Significant postdoctoral research experience (2-6 years) in target screening or immunoreceptor engineering.
- A strong publication record demonstrating research excellence.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate research projects, with a focus on developing ideas for IITs.
- A high level of motivation to secure national and international funding and to lead a growing research team.
- An independent and responsible approach to team leadership, including mentoring of postdoctoral researchers and students.
- A commitment to fostering collaborations and contributing to the local research community.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English, suitable for an international research setting.
