Postdoctoral Researcher in Cancer Evolution Mechanisms

LAB PHILOSOPHY: The Odom laboratory employs state-of-the-art experimental genomics techniques, including spatial transcriptomics and advanced sequencing methods, to investigate mutagenesis, cancer initiation, and progression. We adopt a collaborative and integrative approach, partnering closely with computational research teams.

Your Responsibilities

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a candidate to lead a team of skilled technicians in a comprehensive analysis of how sex influences mutagenesis and cancer initiation. This project builds on our innovative use of chemical carcinogens to study cancer development in murine models. Previous findings have uncovered a novel cancer formation mechanism termed lesion segregation and have explored the dynamics of repair and damage at a single-strand level. This initiative will focus on analyzing cancer genomes from female mice and will utilize a four core genotypes model to disentangle the effects of hormones and sex chromosomes. By leveraging advanced spatial mapping of single-cell transcriptomes, we aim to understand how the sex-specific microenvironment impacts tumorigenesis.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills to coordinate laboratory technicians and computational collaborators effectively. Responsibilities will include project management, method development, and the collection and analysis of extensive genomic datasets. Our multidisciplinary team environment is designed to foster scientific independence, leadership, and professional growth.

Your Profile

IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow with a strong background in molecular biology and genomics. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, ambitious, detail-oriented, and driven by scientific curiosity. Experience in single-cell methodologies, transcriptional regulation, cancer genomics, epigenetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, or comparative genomics is highly desirable. We also welcome applications from accomplished graduate students interested in transitioning to this research area.
