LAB PHILOSOPHY: The Odom laboratory employs state-of-the-art experimental genomics techniques, including spatial transcriptomics and advanced sequencing methods, to investigate mutagenesis, cancer initiation, and progression. We adopt a collaborative approach, working alongside computational research teams across Heidelberg.
Your ResponsibilitiesPROJECT DESCRIPTION: We are looking for a candidate to lead a team of skilled technicians in a comprehensive analysis of how sex influences mutagenesis and the onset of cancer. This project builds on our innovative use of chemical carcinogens to study cancer initiation in murine models. Initial findings have uncovered a novel cancer formation mechanism termed lesion segregation and have provided insights into the interplay of repair and damage at a single-strand level. This initiative will involve creating and analyzing cancer genomes from female mice and utilizing a four core genotypes model to disentangle the effects of hormones and sex chromosomes. By leveraging advanced spatial mapping of single-cell transcriptomes, we aim to understand how the sex-specific microenvironment influences tumorigenesis.
KEY DUTIES: The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills to coordinate the Odom laboratory technicians and computational collaborators, potentially including clinical partners, into a cohesive research team. Responsibilities will encompass project management, method development, optimization, and the collection and analysis of extensive genomic datasets. Our training in this multidisciplinary environment is designed to foster scientific independence, leadership, and professional growth.
Your ProfileIDEAL CANDIDATE: We seek a postdoctoral research fellow with a strong experimental focus and extensive expertise in molecular biology and genomics. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, ambitious, detail-oriented, scientifically curious, and driven by a desire to explore new frontiers. Experience in single-cell methodologies, transcriptional regulation, cancer genomics, epigenetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, or comparative genomics is advantageous. We also welcome applications from accomplished graduate students looking to transition into this research area.
